Formed in Glasgow in 2010, The Collectors cover a myriad of ’60s Mod, R&B and Garage classics, both familiar and obscure.
The Collectors are a five piece band of vocals, guitar, bass, drums and keyboards. They draw their main influences from some of the prominent players in the British Invasion – The Animals, The Kinks and The Small Faces – and fuse Mod R&B and Blues Rock with the strong direct drums and frenzied guitar riffs of US Garage bands of the decade, like The Sonics and The Standells.
In April 2010, the band released two demo tracks– covers of The Small Faces’ ‘Own Up Time’ and The Animals’ ‘I’m Crying’. They recorded two more demo tracks in May 2010, Blues legend Magic Sam’s ‘I Just Want A Little Bit’ and Garage classic ‘No Friend Of Mine’ by The Sparkles. This was followed by a recording of ‘Midnight to Six Man’ in what would be their last demo with with Euan on vocals.
The Collectors played their first gig at McChuills, Glasgow on Saturday 18th December, 2010.
After returning to McChuills for their second gig in March 2011, Euan left the band to go travelling through East Asia.
In April 2011, Jim joined the band on vocals. The band will play their first gig with the new line up on 18th June 2011 at McChuills.
